Pakistan to ban wet blue leather export

Pakistan Government has assured the country's leather industry that it would soon introduce necessary steps to ban export of wet blue leather, as it is vital to save the nation's second largest export-oriented value-added leather tanning industry.

The steps will be initiated with an aim of ensuring adequate supply of basic inputs to the domestic leather tanning industries.

The Government's assurance came in response to a demand by the country's tanning industry for a total ban on all kinds of wet blue, wet blue split, and pickled leathers, besides raw hides and skins.

The imposition of a total ban on export of basic raw material would make it easy for the domestic tanning industry to procure the raw material required for production of goods meant for export.

This would lead to a reduction in production cost and would help the country earn more valuable foreign exchange.
