German specialty chemicals company LANXESS is showcasing its products and systems for innovative shoe, furniture and automotive leather at the All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) taking place in Shanghai, China between September 6 and 8, 2011.

The focus is on a new type of robust organic tanning process for high-quality leather with outstanding environmental properties. According to Jürgen Hackenbroich, Regional Head Asia Pacific in the Leather business unit, "a new organic tanning system is celebrating its debut at the ACLE. It is based on toxicologically safe organic chemicals for more sustainable and economical wet white manufacture. And owing to the resulting outstanding leather properties we are reckoning on good market opportunities."

"In February 2011 we announced that as part of our new Sustainable Leather Management program we would be expanding and rounding out our portfolio with new sustainable products and developments. We are now able to present to the leather sector an organic tanning material that fits perfectly into our X series. This comprises all our products which are designed for sustainable leather production," explained Dr. Dietrich Tegtmeyer, Vice President Product Development and Application in LANXESS's Leather business unit. The specialty chemicals company already has a considerable range of products for application in the ECO leather sector. These include premium products for energy-saving and resource-conserving production processes that minimize waste and the use of critical substances in leather manufacture.

One of the focuses of LANXESS's exhibition at the ACLE is Aquaderm X-Shield, an antisoiling system that has already been introduced to the market and even passes the soiling tests of the automotive industry. The exhibits include automotive leather of well known manufacturers.

LANXESS products are available for all stages of leather manufacture from the wet end to finishing. The company has one of the broadest ranges of leather chemicals available. These include inorganic and synthetic/organic tanning materials, preservatives and tanning auxiliaries, fatliquoring agents and dyestuffs, and finishing products such as polyurethane dispersions, acrylates and auxiliaries.

The Leather business unit belongs to LANXESS's Performance Chemicals segment, which achieved total sales of EUR 1.98 billion in fiscal 2010.

LANXESS is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of EUR 7.1 billion in 2010 and currently around 15,500 employees in 30 countries. The company is at present represented at 46 production sites worldwide. The core business of LANXESS is the development, manufacturing and marketing of plastics, rubber, intermediates and specialty chemicals.
