Tunisia's leather and footwear industry has posted a growth of 8 percent during the first 11 months of 2011.
During January-November 2011, Tunisia exported leather and footwear items worth 948.9 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) compared to export worth 875.5 MTD during the corresponding period in 2010, according to the National Leather and Footwear Centre.
Segment-wise, export of leather apparels increased substantially by 77 percent year-on-year, while exports of leather goods and leather accessories increased by 45 percent and 19 percent, respectively.
The 11-month period saw Tunisian leather and footwear imports rising to 610.8 MTD, showing an increase of 7.3 percent year-on-year.
This resulted in a net trade balance of 338.1 MTD in favour of Tunisia.
