The value of leather and leather items exports from Thailand is likely to rise by 15 percent in 2012 to US$ 2 billion, the International Trade Promotion Department has said.
The increasing awareness about good quality of Thailand leather goods will push the value of exports further, despite the domestic industry facing shortage of raw materials, according to Anchalee Promnart, Deputy Director-General of the Department.
In 2011, Thailand's leather and leather products exports jumped by 15.2 percent year-on-year to US$ 1.8 billion.
With an objective to increase local sales, the Department will be organizing "Thai Leather Weeks: Bag and The City" fair during February 17-26, 2012 in association with the Thai Leathers Goods Association.
Over 100 leather and leather product manufacturing companies and traders are expected to participate in the fair.
