Although, the export condition in Nepal is going through a tough time, especially with India and other neighbouring countries, statistics reveal that trade situation with Bangladesh is quite rosy.
Among all the buyer nations, Bangladesh has emerged as a good market for Nepal. Experts from the region are optimistic regarding prevailing export circumstances between the two countries and also expect Nepal to surpass its earnings compared to last fiscal.
In the present financial year, which runs from July to June (2007-08), bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Nepal has seen a considerable growth.
According to the data provided, in the period from July to November, goods worth around Rs861 million were exported to Bangladesh. Of the total, 95,500 square feet raw leather was shipped priced at Rs19.85 per foot to this destination.
During the previous fiscal, exports to Bangaldesh reached nearly Rs541 million, on the other hand purchases from the region touched Rs499.7 million. While exports include chiefly raw leather, raw jute and readymade garments made-up the major imports.
