In order to generate higher foreign exchange for the country and to boost its business with the neighbouring nations, Tanzania Government has decided to set up around 13 Export Processing Zones in Coast, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Morogoro, Mara, Mtwara, Kigoma, Mbeya, Kagera, Ruvuma, Lindi, Tanga and Mwanza.
Sources from the Export Processing Zone confirmed that the purpose of this venture is to enhance bilateral trade relations with countries like Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The project will help the local manufacturers to seek new markets in these regions and export items like leather goods, furniture, textiles and garments. These EPZs will develop export-oriented industries and generate employment opportunities for domestic people.
