According to the statistics gathered from Wenzhou city, in 2007, the unit price of the local leather shoes exported to EU went up 13.35 percent, from US $7.97 to $9.03 a pair.
A total of around 26.254 million pairs of leather shoes worth $237 million were exported this year to the EU market, down by 10.34 and 1.6 percent respectively, against 2006.
According to a Government official of Wenzhou City, the anti-dumping tax levied by EU has hit the local shoes exporters quite badly.
In order to cope with the situation, domestic entrepreneurs quickly changed the production structure by adding value and increasing technical level. The companies now have thrown away their business style of 'get profit by quantity' and 'low-price competition' to take the local leather shoes enterprises on the path of gradual success.
This changed attitude of the Wenzhou city leather industry has helped them to bag orders from some reputed international players like Deichmann and Walmart.
