The Government of Karnataka is very happy to associate itself with this Forum. We are keen on partnering with them to chart one more of India's success stories in the Information Technology sphere.”

Formally announcing the launch of the CII-GEPS Forum, Mr. Rajeev Shroff, spokesperson, CII-GEPS Forum, said, “The fact that India is well positioned to become a leading hub for enterprise-level product support services by 2012 is undeniable.

The CII-GEPS Forum has been formed to maximize the potential of the enterprise product support industry in India and to help make talent in the country employable and market-ready.

The Forum will provide a platform to companies to benchmarks skills and map them to talent, and provide a body of reference to companies that are considering India as an option for high-end technical support.

Announcing the findings of the IDC report, Mr. Kapil Dev Singh, Country Manager, IDC India said, “The business of enterprise product support services is evolving. Across the marketplace, companies are seeking new ways to increase customer value and strengthen customer relationships.

This need creates an unprecedented opportunity for product support organizations in India to extend beyond their traditional reactive function, and become proactive leaders in optimum value creation for customers”.

The incubation of this Forum by the CII and the member companies is a good example of collaborative valuecreation in this niche segment of Enterprise Product Support, said Mr Vikram Tiwathia, Chief Information Officer, CII.

We hope that the Forum will be able to garner the support of the Government and more importantly in developing awareness in the Academic community to build a sustained supply chain of talented human capital, which will be a core aspect of achieving the predicted growth figure.

As per earlier IDC estimates, the worldwide software support and maintenance business currently stands at US$ 145 billion and is growing at a CAGR of 7.8% and is poised to reach US$ 212 billion by 2012.

The total Enterprise product support services export revenue for India stood at US$ 1.4 billion in 2007. There is a significant growth momentum and IDC forecasts that the enterprise product support industry in India will grow to accommodate 15% of the global enterprise product support workforce by 2012. The overall revenue from India in the enterprise product support services export will also grow to US$ 10.7 billion in 2012.
