Huge opportunities available for doing business with India, Mr. Matti

Shri Kamal Nath, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, during his call on the Finland Prime Minister, Mr. Matti Vanhanen, informed that India is a vibrant economy and huge opportunities are available for doing business with India.

India has a large skilled human resource base, which can be combined with Finland's technology and investment to create a win-win situation for both sides, he added. Shri Kamal Nath stated that initiative for cooperation in renewable energy sectors needs to be encouraged.

The Commerce Minister also reiterated that India looks forward to early conclusion of comprehensive trade and investment negotiations with European Union (EU), as these agreements provide building blocks for successful economic relationship.

“India recognises the importance of small & medium enterprises (SMEs) to exploit the potential of the growing Indian markets and participate in projects related to infrastructural development in particular”, the Minister added. A large high-level delegation representing both official and business, were present at the interactions.

Shri Kamal Nath emphasised that both the governments need to encourage businesses to explore new areas and sectors, to widen and deepen the trade basket. “Trade between India and Finland is concentrated in a few products, such as readymade garments, machinery and electronic goods”, he said.

During the interactions with Finland Prime Minister, Shri Kamal Nath underlined the areas of bilateral cooperation in the areas such as, energy including renewable & clean development mechanism, forestry & forest industries, information technology, civil aviation, environment, science & technology, air services, ports & shipping, culture, tourism and financial cooperation.
