Dr. Ashwani calls for exponential leap in Indo-Japan Relations

Dr Kumar who was the accompanying minister to Prime Minister Abe during the latter's visit to India in August 2007, assured former Prime Minister Abe that India seeks a comprehensive economic and strategic Partnership with Japan, and that India and Japan are on same side in meeting global challenges.

Former Prime Minister Abe assured Dr Kumar that he was committed to making the relationship between India and Japan a special one and that it was his considered view that the new global order in the making warrants a close partnership between India and Japan.

Mr Abe sought India's cooperation in Environment protection and said that he understood India's need to explore alternate sources of clean energy to fuel its economic growth.

He informed Dr Kumar that Japan was looking forward to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit later this year and assured dr Kumar that he would personally continue to support all efforts to deepen Indo-Japan relationship.

Dr Kumar also met with Minister Akira Amari the minister for Economy Trade and Industry and discussed the progress in the implementation of dedicated freight corridor and DMIC. Dr Kumar informed Mr Amari that India welcomes Japanese investments and Technology in a manner that may be mutually beneficial.

He urged Mr Amari to assist in Japan becoming a large investor in the Indian manufacturing and Food Processing sectors. Dr Kumar informed Mr Amari that India was committed to an early conclusion of EPA and for forging a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with Japan.

Mr Amari assured Dr Ashwani Kumar of Japanese Govt desire to increase Japanese FDI in India consequent upon liberalization of the FDI norms. He expressed the hope that EPA would be concluded soon so as to give a fillip to the relationship.

Dr Kumar also met Mr Yushimi Watanabe, Minister for Financial Services and Administrative Reforms and discussed a wide range of issues between India and Japan.
