Bi-lateral trade with Japan grows by leaps and bounds

Vietnamese Trade Agency in Tokyo recently reported that bi-lateral trade value of Vietnam and Japan reached US $12.5 billion in 2007, showing a rise of 26.1 percent in comparison with 2006. Of the total trade value, Vietnam exported commodities worth $6.5 billion to Japan, up by 16.7 percent over the previous year.

Key products exported to Japan include $1 billion worth of crude oil, textile and garment for $835 million, and footwear at $181 million.

Looking into the trade potential of the country, Japanese enterprises have started seeking investment prospects in the region.

A delegation of Japan Shoe Association led by President Tadahiro Kawano took the opportunity and visited Ho Chi Minh City recently.

So far, footwear industry of Vietnam has been attracting foreign investors from various countries like Taiwan, Korea and China.
