The New Year has not brought good news for exporters of Qingdao located in the eastern Shandong Province. Purchases from US market registered a decline in the first two months of the present year.
In the month of January, its export turnover from the US scored US $392 million, a fall of 2.6 percent from the similar period last year. In February the figures were further down by 5.4 percent to $751 million compared to previous month.
On the whole, clothing exports saw a rise of mere 0.8 percent with a year-on-year growth of 42.2 percent over the corresponding period last year. Footwear exports declined by 7.9 percent and at the same time exports of transport equipments also fell by 21.0 percent.
Qingdao's exports to the United States in processing trade accounted for 60.5 percent. Exports in the month of February saw a drop of 11.9 percent from January.
