Jiangsu exports to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) accelerated in 2008 and bilateral trade of this province with the countries has reached new levels.
Bilateral trade with ASEAN during the first quarter of this year exceeded US $10 billion mark. Amazingly, after this development, ASEAN became a trade surplus source for Jiangsu Province.
From January to April, total bilateral trade volume between Jiangsu and ASEAN realized more than $13.709 billion, a year-on-year increase of 27.4 percent and a 6.7 percentage points higher growth rate.
Of this, Jiangsu exported $6.906 billion worth of products to the ASEAN, registering a surge of 46 percent.
Imports from ASEAN marked $6.803 billion, up 12.8 percent, achieving a trade surplus of US $103 million.
Last year the bilateral trade between these two regions had incurred a deficit of $1.307 billion for Jiangsu.
