Foreign trade will recover in 2nd half – Commerce Vice Minister

Vice Minister of Commerce Mr Gao Hucheng spoke at the 104 session of China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) on July 22 regarding the current foreign trade situation in the country.

He said that general import and export of China in the first half was good, and in line with the expectation of the Government's regulation. Minister assured that the overall situation of foreign trade and economic cooperation would be more positive and optimistic in the second half of this year.

Mr Hucheng stressed that although 25.7 percent growth in China's import and export value in the first half was slower than the same period of 2007, it definitely marked a firm trend.

He promised support and said that Ministry of Commerce would do a work hard to improve sales. It would help restructure export products, continue to optimize export product mix as well as restrict export products of high pollution, high energy consumption and resources.

Mr Hucheng said that currently some export oriented industries and enterprises are facing major difficulties. Ministry will further investigate, analyze, research the difficulties, and make timely policy adjustments.

According to the statistics from the General Administration of Customs, China's annual import and export value first surpassed US $2 trillion to $2.1738 trillion in 2007. This represented a year-on-year growth of 23.5 over 2006, a net rise of $413.4 billion.
