China implemented the 'antitrust law', which has been one of the major topics of discussions in past several months, on August 1, 2008.

This law protects fair competition and abusive behavior by companies in dominant position. It also keeps a close check on mergers, joint ventures and acquisition in order to ensure fair-play and healthy competitive spirit.

However, this law is not a barrier for enterprises to grow bigger in terms of both size and influence and hold strong position in the market.

Ever since the Government announced its plans to adopt this law, transnational companies enjoying dominant positions in their industries have been aggressively preparing for it.

They are consulting international law firms and conducting in-house legal preparation and training.

Experts explained that the implementation of antitrust law showed the global investors that commercial environment provided by China was safe and fair. It doest not stop growth but only protects the interest of the consumers.
