Department of Customs of Ho Chi Minh City recently held a meeting with local government officials and companies involved in foreign trade to review the progress on E-Customs.

Since the implementation of the E-Customs procedure in October 2005, a total of 67,538 customs declarations have been made, with a daily average of 130. Transactions of imports-exports made through e-customs system reached US $6.9 billion.

However, at present only 237 enterprises have been granted certificate for participation in e-customs procedure and only 180 of them are actually using this system, accounting for just 1 percent of the number of companies involved in foreign trade in Vietnamese.

At the conference, concerned departments and enterprises requested the Department of Customs to push forward the cooperation between departments to shorten procedure and simplify the procedure for better performance of e-custom system. The time consumed for filing an e-customs form is normally between a low of 10 minutes to a high of 2 hours.

Nguyen Thi Hong, deputy president of Ho Chi Minh City people's committee also directed the Department of Customs to coordinate with other concerned authorities to create favorable conditions, thereby encouraging enterprises to take part in e-customs system.
