It has been noted that the retail industry in Hong Kong showed weak trend in the first half of this year. Experts have pointed out that the situation will grow worse in the second half, due to new policy and tough international trade situation.

Recently, Chinese Government announced that Hong Kong visa cannot be used to visit Macau, which is one of top tourist attraction. Statistics show that over 14 percent of the Chinese visitors to Hong Kong include Macau in their trip.

Thus, analysts believe, that now with the new law, number of tourists to both Hong Kong and Macau will decline.

This is definitely not a good sign for retail industry of Hong Kong, whose key consumers are tourists.

It seems that companies have stopped setting up new outlets and shops, here. Even jewellery industry which has shown healthy results so far, will barely mark similar sales as that in 2007.

Chief retail sectors like textile, garment, jewellery and cosmetics will be among the worst hit.
