Recently 16th annual NCE awards were held at Hilton Colombo where Sri Lankan exporters were awarded for their excellent business skills.

Speaking at the occasion Mr Ajith Cabraal, Governor Central Bank said that looking at the present scenario it can be assumed that by 2010 the exports of the country will reach US $10 billion mark.

According to the experts, the desired target is not difficult to achieve as Sri Lankan exports have come a long way. The total value of exports reached an all time high of $863 million in December 2007. The country is also maintaining an economic growth of around 7 percent in the last three years.

Industry insiders opine that proper infrastructure needs to be developed and correct planning can boost the ailing sectors that were previously booking loses.

The NCE awards have become one of the most prominent ceremonies that appreciate the exporters' contribution to the overseas earnings of the nation. This year more than 143 entries had come, which shows the popularity it has gained from the time NCE was initiated.
