Switzerland an attractive market for entrepreneurs - Experts

The Trade Office of Swiss Industries (TOSI) is operated by the Swiss Taiwan Trading Group (STTG), which is a non-profit organization that promotes trade between Switzerland and Taiwan. Officials at the Taipei based Office are of the opinion that the Taiwanese businessmen should adopt trends that prevail in the international markets and explore new destinations for remaining in competition.

Experts believe that Taiwan being a small country is highly dependent on overseas trade and in order to make the nation all the more strong the entrepreneurs should seek newer markets. However, they believe that in comparison to countries like Singapore and South Korea, Taiwan is less competitive and has not been able to penetrate European markets.

In recent times Switzerland has emerged as a profitable market because of its geographic location, diverse industry and services. Taiwanese businessmen should mould their strategies in such a way that they are able to take the maximum benefit provided by Switzerland, as both the countries have very similar economic structures.

Market experts suggest that the two nations should continue to work under the framework of the World Trade Organization, which is important in representing the interests and opportunities.

According to TOSI statistics, bilateral trade between Taiwan and Switzerland has been growing consistently over the past few years. For Taiwan, Switzerland was its 47th largest export market and the 27th most important import market, with Swiss investment in Taiwan totaling almost US $592 million and Taiwanese investment in Switzerland reaching approximately $18.75 million in 2007.
