Skilled textile labourers in the making
Nov '08
Observing the huge demand for skilled labourers in the textile and garment industry, one of the biggest foreign currency earners for the country, Mr Bui Xuan Khu, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade has recently approved a program on training and developing human resources.

Under the program, which will run till 2015, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) targets to churn out trained managers and technicians.

According to the Ministry, during period from 2008 to 2020, the industry needs 11,330 management people, 29,500 economic staffs, more than 30,400 technical staffs and 990,000 labourers.

Since early 2008, textile and garment enterprises are troubled with issues like labourer shortage and strikes. Experts say that this training will help in improving the current situation.

A recent report from MOIT shows that in the month of October, the textile and garment exports reached US $811 million, surpassing crude oil, to become the largest exporting product of the country. During these ten months, the turnover climbed to $7.65 billion.
