FDDI organizes workshop at Oscar Leathers Pvt. Ltd.
Two-day workshop for the training and development on footwear was disseminated at Oscar Leathers Pvt. Ltd., located at Industrial Area, Mohali, Punjab on 1st & 2nd December 2008 by the technical experts of Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI).
When contacted, Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI said, "At present, most of the people in this industry are not trained but now with this industry advancing and developing both technologically and professionally, it calls for qualified professionals to cater to the needs and requirements of the people & imparting training through this type of workshop/programme at the company's premises is a step in the right direction."
Oscar Leathers Pvt. Ltd. is a 12 year old company located near the most modern Indian city, Chandigarh. The company is engaged in the manufacture and export of leather shoes and uppers to leading brands in Europe and Australia. The company and its ancillaries employ skilled workforce of about 350 people and has a capacity of making 2000 pairs of uppers and 1000 pairs of shoes per day.
The unit alongwith the executives of the company attended it & gained knowledge on various sizing systems, its conversion from one system to another, optimization in cutting of leather, on designing, on lasting, finishing and ascertaining product prices with rationalized ways of costing.
Mr. Deepak Choudhary (HoD- Cutting & Closing department) & Mr. Aritra Das (HoD- Lasting department) delivered their expertise as lectures, power point presentation, slides, samples and demonstrations.
Mr. Jasvinder Pal Singh Rana, Director, Oscar Leathers Pvt. Ltd. said, "Our workers learned a great deal from this workshop and we intend to have further training programs to be delivered at our unit of 30-45 days duration."
Oscar Leathers Pvt. Ltd., has gained expertise in making Ladies and Gent's flat Slippers and Sandals, Ballerinas, Wooden Clogs, House Shoes, Stitch and Turn Shoes and Dance Shoes. The company has all modern machinery to make high quality uppers and shoes in various constructions.
Mr. Sanjiv Gupta, Oscar Leathers Pvt. Ltd. said, "The two days workshop was successful in providing the inputs required presently & since we are planning to increase the capacity to 3000 per day in the near future, this type of workshop would be a boon for the company."
A discussion regarding the process of manufacturing footwear from designing to finishing, packing & quality control, construction systems & other footwear related information was also delivered during the workshop.
