The textile and apparel sector in Vietnam is reporting a recovery in terms of new overseas orders received in the last few fortnights. But the same cannot be said for another big export revenue generator; footwear.
This was revealed by the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association, which said that footwear exports in the first five months of 2009 could touch only about US $2 billion compared to the target of $5 billion.
It said, the European Union accounted for a majority share of footwear exports from the country and the sector has also been able to increase exports to the US by 9 percent, when compared with the same period of 2008.
