The National Retail Federation, the world's largest retail trade association, announced that NRF President and CEO Tracy Mullin has been named one of the top association CEOs in the country. The list, which ranks association leaders from all industries, is published in the July edition of CEO Update.

According to the article, top CEOs were chosen from interviews with hundreds of CEOs, executive recruiters, and CEO Update staff. Factors for consideration included the individual's legislative success, leadership ability, skill in raising a group's profile or managing a crisis, history of building coalitions and reaching consensus, and membership excellence in areas such as meetings, education, and certification.

“Leading the group since 1993, she's grown NRF's annual meeting and fostered a culture of employee satisfaction that led the group to high ratings in CEO Update's 2008 “Top Places to Work”,” according to the article.* The article also says that, although she is close to retirement, “Mullin is no lame duck—on July 13 she announced her group had “come out swinging” at Wal-Mart over the company's support of employer-mandated health care.”

Mullin began her career at NRF more than 30 years ago and held a series of positions of increasing responsibility before being elected President and CEO 1993. She continues to lead the retail industry's efforts on Capitol Hill to push Congress and the Administration to address economic issues that have hurt the retail industry, pursue passage of health care reform retailers can live with, and defeat the Employee Free Choice Act.
