Bata Malaysia is undertaking renovations of its major shoe stores in Malaysia, with an investment of around RM 10 million. This will offer a new appearance to its existing stores with a European concept, said Thomas George Bata, Chairman Bata Shoe Organization.

The flagship store of Bata located in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur, will undergo renovation and will reopen in July 2010. The organization has around 260 stores in Malaysia, a shoe factory in Klang and enjoys a presence in 60 countries.

Bata which has a market share of about 11 percent in the Malaysian shoe retail market, will introduce a new retailing concept in Malaysia soon. This will facilitate customers to purchase shoes online. According to the Chairman, the company endeavors to get more young and trendy customers for its shoes.

Malaysia will enjoy the recognition of being a pioneer in launching the online retail store in South-East Asia, said, Bata East Asia's group Managing Director, Marcello Pace. The brand has successfully established itself in Malaysia with a range of shoes, from sports to fashionable collection of footwear for women.

It has established itself as a household name that also caters to family needs. Malaysia enjoys the third position in sales for Bata in South-East Asian markets, wherein nine million pair of shoes were sold last year by the company.
