A thermal energy plant worth £6 million has been launched by a Scottish Leather Group. This plant is an outcome of 10 years' plan, which will generate power that is required to operate the firm's tannery and factory in Bridge of Weir.
The waste material required for the process has been taken from various companies of the group, which is then converted into heat and steam that requires to dry leather and heat water. Leather from the group has been provided to the design and fashion trade and car manufacturers, as well, such as Aston Martin.
This group, which employs around 500 people, is the United Kingdom's biggest producer of bovine leather. Annual turnover of the group is £65million. Chairman of the Scottish Leather Group, Jonathan Muirhead said that, the group has taken a decision few days ago, to tackle issues related to waste and landfill as per government guidelines.
