No date has been fixed for the release of the national e-commerce policy as it is still under consideration, India’s commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said told parliament lower house recently. The policy was earlier set to be released by end of last year. The policy is being discussed with various stakeholders for the last few months, he said.

The draft addressed mainly six issues—data, infrastructure development, e-commerce marketplaces, regulatory issues, stimulating domestic digital economy and export promotion through e-commerce.
Analysts say the delay will only benefit big players, who are under investigation over alleged anti-competitive behaviour, according to Indian media reports.
The Confederation of All India Traders was reportedly disappointed by the minister’s statement.
