Pakistani manufacturers and exporters of knitwear garments have planned to adhere to environmental laws in their factories within a year through technical support from the Punjab Environment Protection Department. In a recent meeting with the department, details were worked out and a plan of action was devised to complete full compliance.

Apart from technical support, the department is also prepared to create linkage with financial institutions and banks to provide soft loans to the industry, environment secretary Zafar Nasrullah told the meeting.

Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) chairman Adil Butt assured the association support for the government and pledged to work as a bridge between the government and the industry, according to Pakistani media reports. (DS)
