Raymond and KVIC had signed an agreement in December 2016 and the order for khadi fabric has been placed as part of the convergence, said media reports quoting Sanjay Behl, CEO of Raymond. The company has already taken over 6,000 metres of different khadi fabrics from KVIC for sampling and testing purposes.
VK Saxena, chairman of KVIC said that this is the largest order placed by a top brand and it is likely to encourage corporate sector to market Khadi fabric.
Raymond selected various clusters including Rajasthan and Gujarat for procuring the fabric. The commission will supply grey and finished fabric to the company, which will create designer wear for the high-end market.
Saxena added that 5 per cent of the margin from special supplies will be given to khadi artisans in the form of additional wages. The bulk order will generate 3,92,000 additional man-hours for the artisans as Raymond is expected to procure fabric worth Rs 2.5 crore every year from KVIC. (KD)
