Sao Paulo fashion week attracts Arab buyers

Premier fashion event of Brazil, São Paulo Fashion Week scheduled from 12 to 18 July, 2006, is in full swing, organised by Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) and the Brazilian Association of Stylists (Abest).
Interesting fact is that from the pool of 20 foreign buyers, five belong to Arab world consisting of Dubai, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, which is quite a significant achievement for the Brazilian market.
Apex and Abest have a pact that targets increasing sales revenue in the field of accessories, jeans, shoes, and beachwear as well.
According to project manager of Apex, Nelma Vieira, buyers itinerary includes visits to showrooms, stores and factories of the participating companies along with watching their creations in the fashion show, indicating their keen desire to do business with the companies.
Apex and Abest further intend to renew contract for a year.
Number of companies participating this year has shot to 31 compared to six when the agreement was first signed in 2003.
All companies are to participate in events in Paris, Miami, New York and Japan along with buying projects.
Apex and Abest also hope that the number of companies raises to 40 before the end of the year that will provide them with export opportunities worth US $11.4 million in 2006 and $13.7 million in 2007.
Exports were pegged at just, $9.5 million in 2005.
