Luxury goods retailer Liberty has delivered strong results over the Christmas period with sales increasing approximately 6% on 2005/6, despite a 20% reduction in floor space. Chief executive Ian Renwick said sales of women's luxury fashion accessories had been particularly strong, along with perfumes and beauty products.
Adams, the children's retailer, is to be put up for sale by Bridgepoint Capital, a private equity group, according to a report in the Times. The company is expected to sell for an estimated GBP50 million. Adams has reported disappointing sales in recent years as it has struggled to compete with growing competition from the supermarkets and discount clothing chains such as Primark and Matalan.
Italian clothes retailer Benetton Group has appointed Emilio Foa as its new chief financial officer to fill the position vacated by Pier Francesco Facchini in November, who left citing personal reasons. Mr Foa joins the company from fellow clothes group Burberry, where he had worked as deputy CFO since February 2005. He is expected to take up his new role in April 2007.
The luxury fashion company Burberry is to be summoned before a parliamentary select committee regarding its plans to close its factory in Treorchy, Wales and switch manufacturing to China.
Littlewoods has signed up Trinny and Susannah to promote its mail order catalogue. Trinny andSusannah, known for their fashion tips in the hit BBC series 'What Not to Wear' and on ITV's 'Trinny and Susannah Undress', are to provide fashion advice in the Littlewoods catalogue, and undertake PR and advertising for the next two years.
