Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (ABIT) said that the Brazilians, Coopa-Roca and Alexandre Herchcovitch are exhibiting at the international Global Fashion/Local Tradition, which began on September 17 and extends to January 15, at the Centraal Museum, in Utrecht, Holland.

The exhibit's theme is based on fashion in the global world and local traditions, and the effects of globalization on contemporary fashion. The stylist Alexandre Hercovitch and Coopa-Roca – an arts and crafts and sewing cooperative from the Rocinha shantytown in Rio de Janeiro – are in an area dedicated to designers and brands that maintain their origins and traditions, but that seek visibility and recognition through the Internet and fashion weeks.

Maria Teresa Leal, coordinator for Coopa-Roca, took pieces developed by the cooperative, which is set up in the largest shantytown in Latin America, together with their commercial partners Carlos Miele, Osklen and Lenny.

Besides the Brazilians, this area also has exhibits by Dene fur Clouds, Rita Kumar and Manish Arora (India), China Lane (China), Sun Godess (South Africa), Razu Mikhina (Russia), Pineda Covalin (Mexico), and Lam de Wolf (Netherlands).

ABIT (The Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) represents the integration of the Brazilian textile chain. Founded on the early 1960's, ABIT sponsors companies of every segment in the textile industry, including cotton growing, synthetic raw materials, textile fibers, spinning, weaving, knitwear, dyeing, printing and clothing.
