Cosmetic company Beiersdorf hosted this year's Joint Meeting of the Society of Cutaneous Ultrastructure Research (SCUR) and the International Society of Skin Pharmacology and Physiology (ISP) From June 1 to June 4, 2005. For four days more than 100 researchers and dermatologists gathered from around the world at Beiersdorf in Hamburg.
More than 60 lectures, presentations, round table discussions and panel talks – crammed into a tight schedule – focused on the latest results in skin research and applied dermatology.
“They had a lot of very interesting discussions and important talks in a most beautiful environment, thanks to Beiersdorf”, Prof. Daniele Innocenzi, SCUR- President and Head of Instituto di Clinica Dermatologica, Rome University, summarized. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Lademann, ISP-President and Head of Dermatology Research at Berlin's Charité Hospital confirmed.
At the Opening on Wednesday Prof. Dr. Klaus-Peter Wittern, Head of Research of Beiersdorf AG, said, hosting the SCUR & ISP meeting proved apt for Beiersdorf, “as skin is one of our core competences and we have a strong – and growing – focus on skin research: No one has introduced as many activities in the past decade as we have”. In a tour through the one hundred years of company history he illustrated the emergence of one of the world's leading producers of skin cosmetics and health care products – from the first patent for skin plaster to today's 650 employees working in skin research, producing an average of 100 to 150 patents per year.
