Fashion retailer La Senza announces Q2 results

Montreal based specialty retailer La Senza Corporation reported net earnings of $2.1 million or $0.16 per share for the quarter ended July 30, 2005 compared to a net loss of $1.6 million or $0.12 per share for the quarter ended July 31, 2004. For the six month period, the Company posted net earnings of $3.8 million or $0.28 per share compared to a net loss of $5.8 million or $0.44 per share for the corresponding prior year period.

The financial results include a loss from discontinued operations relating to the closure of the Company's U.S. operation. The results of the U.S. operations for the corresponding period of the previous year have been reclassified as discontinued operations.

Excluding losses from discontinued operations, earnings from continuing operations amounted to $3.2 million or $0.24 per share for the second quarter ended July 30, 2005 compared to a loss of $814,000 or $0.06 per share for the corresponding quarter of the prior year. For the six month period, earnings from continuing operations amounted to $5.8 million or $0.43 per share compared to a loss of $3.8 million or $0.28 per share for the corresponding prior year period.

Earnings before interest, income taxes, amortization, results in a significantly influenced company, foreign exchange on investment activities and discontinued operations (EBITDA) amounted to $10.0 million for the current second quarter versus $8.2 million for the second quarter of the prior year. For the six month period, EBITDA amounted to $19.8 million versus $12.0 million for the prior year period.
