Fashion & clothing retailer Edcon registers steep rise in sales and profits

Major fashion and clothing retailer of South Africa, Edgars Consolidated Stores announced rise in annual profits by 68 percent.
Announcing a windfall for shareholders on Wednesday, retail sales revenue jumped 29 percent to 13.59 billion rand.
Edcon runs 700 stores under 9 trading banners. Dealing mainly in apparel and footwear, the company also sell cosmetics, books, stationery, home fashions and general merchandise. As a biggest credit retailer in Southern Africa, the company has over 3.5 million active accounts. Edcon employs 20,000 employees.
