Leading brand, Liberty Shoes Ltd, plans a Rs160 crore expansion that is expected to earn around Rs265 crore by 2006-2007 and over Rs230 crore by the end of 2006.

It was a journey of path-breaking enterprise that began from Karnal with a few individuals who dared to dream big. Their dream was to liberate the Indian footwear buyer from the shackles of limited choice and outdated technology.

And now more than half-a-century later one can say that their dream was realized with dramatic results. Today, Liberty is the only Indian company that features in the list of the world's top 5 manufacturers of leather footwear with a turnover in excess of US $ 100 million.

More than 75000 pairs of footwear is produced each day, with a range that's among the largest in the industry, for virtually every age group and income category.

Produced in four plants, including three new ones of which two are in Himachal Pradesh and one in Uttaranchal, they are marketed across the globe through 150 distributors, 350 exclusive showrooms and over 6000 multi-brand stores.

If the company today has such a firm footing on the international stage it's also due to some fancy footwork that has graced the catwalks as well as the sidewalks.

Understanding the nuances of the latest global fashion trends and using the most advanced CAD facility the designers at Liberty have walked away with the honours making style statements that have swept the cognoscenti off their feet.
