International visitor numbers rise at CIFF

Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF) saw a 18 per cent increase in the number of visitors from abroad during the fashion week that recently ended in Copenhagen.

Of the 20,123 visitors to CIFF, 37 per cent came from abroad. The large number of foreign visitors came from 71 different countries to Copenhagen’s fashion week. At the previous CIFF fair in February, 30 per cent of the visitors were from abroad.

“It’s fantastic to see how much interest by Copenhagen’s fashion week and Danish fashion as a whole generates abroad. We have especially seen a strong advance in the number of Swedes and Norwegians,” says Kristian W. Andersen, director of CIFF.

Out of a total of 7,445 foreign visitors, the number hailing from Norway was 1,307 and from Sweden 2,213 persons came.

Sharper focus on visitors with buying power

The CIFF fair is first and foremost a sales platform for the fashion industry, so during the fair that ran from Thursday to Sunday, there was increased focus on visitors with buying power.

For this reason, design students, producers and distributors were not allowed to register in order to create the strongest possible platform for exhibitors.

At the previous fair, the number of unique visitors totalled 22,000. Estimates from the latest fair indicate a 10 per cent decrease of visitors, to around 20,123. The decrease, however, can be attributed to the tighter rules for registration.

“We want to create a fair where the most important thing is to sell products. That’s why we didn’t allow individuals from various related segments of fashion to register, but rather rolled out the red carpet for visitors who were there to do business,” says Kristian W. Andersen.

Along with the 20,123 visitors to CIFF in Copenhagen, there were 4,157 exhibitors at the CIFF fair and in Copenhagen from Wednesday to Sunday.
