Douglas opens first perfumery store in Turkey

Cosmetics specialist The Douglas perfumery stores are continuing to pursue their earnings-oriented growth strategy in Europe.
Featuring some 250 square meters of sales space, the first Douglas perfumery in Turkey is opening its doors in the new Kanyon Levent shopping mall in downtown Istanbul. As a consequence, Douglas is now represented in a total of 18 countries.
The company is entering the Turkish market with a tried-and-trusted concept keyed to outstanding service, first-class product ranges and an appealing shopping ambiance. In the area of merchandising, top international names like Chanel and Dior will be joined by truly exquisite lines such as MBR skincare and Red Earth cosmetics.
Douglas sees great potential in the Turkish market. Dr Henning Kreke, President and CEO of Douglas Holding AG, said, "We are expecting to be able to open some eight to ten stores by the end of 2007, focusing initially on the major cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir."
Douglas is the market leader in Europe. During its 2004/05 financial year (ended September 30th 2005), sales at the 872 Douglas perfumeries in 17 countries reached some €1.4 billion, with €565 million being generated outside the home market. The non-German subsidiaries are currently contributing over 46 percent of the Group's perfumery sales. As at March 31st 2006, it was operating over 900 branches across Europe.
