Success story of Vetrina Moda's Rachel Kapsalis

Ten years ago, Vetrina Moda's Rachel Kapsalis was working like part of a machine for a large corporation, without getting to know the cloth-making from start to finish.

Now a decade later, she proudly runs the Vetrina Moda which exclusively carries lines such as Gianfranco Ferre, Mariella Burani, Fiona Swarovski, and Colore.

Rachel Kapsalis got the idea to start a designer boutique when she was working for a large corporation eight years ago.

The right moment for her came when her close friend Franco Nigro, who owns Quorum, moved his fine-menswear shop from Yaletown to 525 West Georgia Street.

With Nigro's help, she leased the space, and flew to Milan for her buying trips, during which she closely followed the Italian-fashion scene, started to learn the language, and built a rapport with design houses.

Thereafter, she brought back everything to her new location that was perfect for a salon-style boutique.

She got to know her clientele and kept them in good humour as they shopped for each season and thus created an intimate shopping experience for them with lunch and cocktails.

For in-house tailoring, Kapsalis got hold of Nigro's mother, Bruna, a seamstress of 22 years to make sure that every garment will fit just right.

Not surprisingly, this is lovely, unpretentious, full-service salon woos clients with old-fashioned Italian hospitality and offers a glimpse of la dolce vita.

The rest is history.

Today, Kapsalis offers a wide variety of collections to her female footfalls, including a range of designer shoes and boots, luxurious cashmere sweaters, dresses adorned with semiprecious-stone and crystal embellishments etc.
