For some, lawn care is a relaxing hobby. For others, it is a serious obsession. But both camps have something in common: Staying safe while working outdoors.
Russell Stark had this in mind when he founded LawnGrips, the first footwear specifically designed for traction, safety and comfort while mowing the lawn, something Stark routinely did when he one day realized lawn care was not without risks.
"I was pushing around a heavy machine with dangerous cutting blades 12 inches from my feet in ratty, old sneakers that offered minimal traction or comfort, and certainly no protection," he says.
Following 18 months of development, Stark introduced LawnGrips. The key feature of LawnGrips is the patented outsole that offers exceptional traction on slick, grassy terrain.
The tread technology was developed for soccer shoes to support pushing, turning and stopping while easily shedding grass clippings and dirt. For safety, all LawnGrips shoes are made with a steel toe under the rugged, molded rubber toe.
Additional performance features include a composite insole board with polyurethane midsole for comfort and support and waterproof, stain-resistant leather uppers.
LawnGrips Classics are available in men's and women's whole and half sizes with a hook and loop closure system for added comfort and convenience.
"Performance, safety and professionalism are very important to my company," said James Cutrer, CEO of Out-Back Lawnscaping, an Austin, Texas firm.
"No one's ever offered a shoe specifically for lawn mowing before. Knowing my crew will be safer and have better traction makes using LawnGrips an easy decision to make. There's a shoe designed for every purpose these days, and it just makes sense to have one for lawn mowing."
