Murphy&Nye returns to its origins at Pitti Uomo

The 71st edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo in Florence (10-13 January) goes into the archives as a resounding success, with Murphy&Nye (M&N) one of the most admired and talked-about brands. Its stand, a copy of the historic sail-maker's building from which the firm began its development in 1933, received a total of almost 2,200 visitors.

For those entering the iron and glass door surmounted by the large white and burgundy logo, the stand's initial visual impact was astounding: the whole interior represented a kind of voyage back through time, evoking a highly original “vintage” sensation that made palpably present the brand's experience in the nautical sector which gave birth to it and which constitutes its inimitable heritage.

All the visitors admired both the men's and women's new collections and offered very positive feedback about the new logos (vintage-inspired for the menswear and flatteringly feminine for the women), the fabrics, the cuts and colours on display.

The international press was also impressed, both by the presentation and by the philosophy behind the garments: the stand played host to various TV crews that came to interview the firm's managers and film the “theatrical staging” of the collections.

The media also made great play of the news of the 25 new monobrand stores to be inaugurated during 2007, which is in itself the best indicator of M&N's state of health.

Murphy&Nye is one of the oldest and most prestigious brand names in world yachting. The tradition continued into the 1980s, when a small shop, connected to the sail factory in La Spezia, was opened by the company's Italian subsidiary, which in the meantime had bought the brand name from its American parent company.
