The Fashion Center Business Improvement District (BID) unveiled a unique Fabric Display Art Installation at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Governor Eliot Spitzer views Fashion Industry Exhibit.

Created by Joy Suarez, the exhibit consists of 30 panels utilizing fabric donated by one of the district suppliers, Mood Fabrics, and additional trim and notions available in the Fashion District.

The installation coincides with the release of the new Fashion District Source Book and is intended to help improve the pedestrian experience on Eighth Avenue and at the terminal, while reinforcing the role of local artisans, unique manufacturers, and suppliers in the fashion industry.

Inside the terminal, the exhibit space is currently under construction. However, the 30 foot floor-to-ceiling windows were previously covered with brown paper to block the condition of its interior space. Now, with this exhibit, art has replaced an eyesore.

“The Fashion Center BID wanted to transform the windows of the Port Authority, while creating something beautiful and inspirational for pedestrians, “said Barbara Randall, executive director of the Fashion Center BID. “This installation also reflects the fashion industry tenants that define the neighborhood as the fashion capital of the world.”

The Port Authority facility has been frequently utilized as a community resource by the Fashion Center BID and local community groups. Events, including an annual Kite festival on the Port Authority's roof, a Fashion Show, and art and music events have showcased both the facility and the creative talent that is in the district.
