Freeman now turns entrepreneur; launches own label

Andrea Freeman spent the last seven years as design and development manager at Barbour, the Northumberland-based outdoor brand which counts the Queen among its army of dedicated followers.

However the Darlington designer has now turned entrepreneur with the launch of her own label, Redana Studio – a bespoke clothing and accessories brand based in her native North East.

The company's flagship products are a range of hand-finished scarves known as 'the hug', which are created using recycled materials gathered from across the globe, as well as a line of luxury silk scarves for men and women.

Ms Freeman is currently in the process of building up a small team of assistants and has a number of major events planned, including the chance to showcase her products at The Conservative Party Conference in Manchester later this year.

While the designer hopes her range will attract the attention of fashion-conscious Samantha Cameron, her products will be displayed in good company, with Redana having a stand alongside Harvey Nichols and Crombie.

Meanwhile, the Redana Studio website has also received several enquiries and orders from all over the world, and has even come to the attention of the editorial team at Vogue magazine.

Ms Freeman said: “I believe we are creating what we call investment pieces, which are higher end than those available on the high street but can be used in every season for many years.

“We won't be dictated to by fashion trends. Instead we want to use our own creativity to develop something unique which also has international appeal and is of course commercially viable.

“Over the next few years our aim is to have a capsule collection of six outfits with solid wholesale distribution and strong online sales.”
