Fashion designer Yan launches S/S 13 womenswear line, Burn

Burn is a word we usually associate with causing damage to something. For Yan To; however, it has been integral to the act of preserving the materials he has been working on.  Without fire, they would shred in the course of time.

SS13 is a landmark collection for many reasons. Burn introduces the fusion of industrial elastics with delicate silk chiffon to create pieces that encapsulate the marriage of these two textiles.

The black palette that has been ever present is joined by nude tones and a disarming cobalt blue, which creates textures rich and deep.

A new tiled technique receives its debut and its uniformity is a stark contrast to the random layering techniques seen in previous collections. Some of these dresses are crafted from obsession and contain over 4,000 individually prepared pieces of elastic.

Burn also saw the use of fire to release color hues and shapes trapped inside the materials. Experimentation with blowtorching directly onto dresses, created some striking results.

Perhaps the most unlikely but exciting element of Burn is a new thinking on the concept of body-con. The collection presents a dress, which looks even more spectacular on women with curves.

The collection is comprised of17 looks, which showcases the uniqueness and pioneering aesthetic that has come to be expected from Yan To.

The Yan To brand is the embodiment of designer Yan To. Born in Hong Kong, Yan To moved to the UK at an early age and grew up in Glasgow before settling in the London area. The combination of this rich cultural foundation, a degree in psychology, and experience in advertising proved to be a powerful combination for Yan To, ultimately leading to the birth of his womenswear label.
