Indian ace couturier Suneet Varma celebrated the completion of his 25 years as a designer in the fashion industry with a gala presentation of a majestic collection inspired by the magnificent bygone era of Indian royal fashion.

Presented by BMW and Swarovski Elements, the Fall/Winter 2012 Couture show was the designer’s interpretation of the stories of five extraordinary Indian queens of European origin- Princess Niloufer of Hyderabad, Princess Durru Shehvar of Berar, Princess Anita Delgado of Kapurthala, Maharani Bamba Duleep Singh of Lahore and Princess Esra of Hyderabad.

The clothing line titled ‘A Passage to India’ is a harmonious amalgamation of Spanish designs and Indian silhouettes, combined with the designer’s strong designing sensibilities and meticulous craftsmanship.

The collection features heavily embellished lehengas, halter neck blouses and enchanting sarees in sheer fabrics with a dominance of bright red, nude and black tones.

Held in New Delhi, the glamorous event saw the presence of several renowned faces of Indian designer fraternity, such as Ritu Kumar, Namrata Joshipura, JJ Valaya and Gauri and Nainika Karan.

Counted among India’s foremost couturiers, Suneet Varma’s designs are also very popular amongst the leading ladies of Bollywood, like Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut, Preity Zinta and are featured on the International and Indian red carpet.

His signature bags are carried by the ‘Sex and the City’ star Sarah Jessica Parker and Hollywood divas Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez.
