Popular Hollywood celebrities like Michael Douglas, Zoe Saldana, Hilary Swank and Jada Pinkett-Smith were seen gracing the front row seats on the penultimate day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.

The American cine stars attended the NYC-based fashion designer Michael Kors’ catwalk presentation, which was a colourful riot of pop orange, cobalt and yellow. The uptown athletic collection featured stretched crepe parachute skirts, felted jersey peplum sheaths, soft oversized cardigans and cosy merino wool leggings.

Indian-born American designer Bibhu Mohapatra drew inspiration from the works of world’s renowned photographers like Man Ray and Horst P. Horst for his latest creations. Seasoned with innovative seams and vertically linear silhouettes, the 1930s influenced line, which includes fur stoles, feather trim gowns and laser-cut leather cocktail dresses, was decorated with fence-link motifs, prints and appliqué techniques.

Well-known fashion designer Nanette Lepore showcased her iridescently coloured Fall-2013 collection on the same day. The futuristic, fashion-forward, close-fitting ensembles included stylish warm jackets, little black dresses and impeccably tailored suits topped with Mars-inspired galactic prints.

Designer Gilles Mendel, the creative director of the French luxury fashion house J. Mendel, featured a tastefully lavish collection inspired by the creations of German visual artist Gerhard Richter. Made of luxe fabrics like silk, jacquard, charmeuse, organza and tulle, the line featured sleek dresses, pencil skirts and evening gowns on a sumptuous and earthy palette of copper, moss, rust, scarlet, fuchsia and royal blue.
