The inaugural edition of Canada Philippine Fashion Week 2013, a fashion-cum-cultural event which aims to celebrate the Filipino culture and the works of Canada-based Filipino designers, is going to take place from June 10-14, 2013, in Toronto.

Serving as a common ground to promote fashion trade between Philippines and Canada, the event will feature special couture shows paying homage to Philippines’s popular festivals like Sinulog, Ati-Atihan, Moriones and Flores de Mayo.

Brainchild of the famous Filipino-Canadian broadcaster, creative director, TV host and executive producer Jeff Rustia, the five-day-long show will also include an exhibition, featuring indigenous fabrics and handiwork created by the Mangyan Tribes.

Additionally, haute couture presentations by Manila-based designers Francis Libiran, John Ablaza, Roland Alzate, Norman Noriega and Leonard Co as well as Filipino-Canadian Noel Crisostomo will be staged at the soiree.

In addition to the Filipino fashion and cultural celebrations, the event will also host a competition Project Terno for Canadian fashion designers, who will be asked to design their versions of the Philippine traditional butterfly dress for women called terno.

All proceeds from the event will go to Jeff Rustia-founded ‘Kol Hope Foundation for Children’, a non-profit organization working for kids with disabilities in Canada and the Philippines.
