The choice of fabric varies from designer to designer and every designer has a unique definition about the role of textiles in designing apparels.
In an interview with fibre2fashion, Stephan Caras, who was listed among the ‘Top 20 designers of the world’ by CEO World Magazine, said, “Fashion designing is all about a wonderful connection between fabrics, colors, textures, etc. and we view hundreds of fabrics each season but select a few.”
“The fabric and I must connect through the chemistry and when I touch the fabric, I must feel the wonderful sensation of sensuality that eventually a woman will feel when she wears it as a piece of clothing,” he adds.
Laila Wazna, a fashion designer known for her contemporary and bold designs, said, “I look at fabrics like a painted panel and I draw beautiful lines on it which turns into a garden full of trees and flowers of different colors.”
Though, textiles are the most important element in fashion, every fashion designer has a different definition about the role of textiles in designing apparels.
Mountain Yam, a fashion designer from Hong Kong, believes that fashion and textiles are co-related with each other. “We cannot create good designs without suitable textiles. Similarly, textiles will be incomplete without good designs,” he says.
According to Sandra Chau, an emerging fashion designer, fashion is not limited to textiles, but textiles are main ingredient of fashion. “What comes first does not really matter and it is just a category,” she said.
Talking about the role of smart textiles in fashion, Dany Simmons, co-founder of Four Eyes and a fashion blogger, says, “We see the integration of smart textiles into fashion as an exciting prospect.”
