The announcement follows the Executive Council of Dubai and the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority’s (DTMFZA) efforts to lay a roadmap for development of the design and fashion industry in the region while fostering talent and promoting creativity across emirates.

According to the decree, the new council would focus on objectives like fostering the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the fashion and design industry, creating an appetite for UAE made fashion products in world market and enhancing employability in the sector.

Besides, the council would also back growth of regional talent and aid planning and organization of design and fashion related events and initiatives, which are attracting more and more fashion enthusiasts to the regional industry.

The council, proposed to be set up under the DTMFZA would comprise of representatives of The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce, Emaar, Dubai Design District and also representatives from other related sectors, all of whom shall be selected on the basis of their leadership and experience in the industry.

Further, reflecting the strategic importance that UAE attaches to the fashion and design industry, the decree mandates all Government agencies to extend full support to the council in matters like furthering statistical data, research material and any other information that the council requires in course of its action.
