Jeanie Madsen is an activist for teens, curator and director of her Art Gallery and a fashion designer. Although Madsen attended a few classes at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) NYC, she is mainly considered a self taught designer.
Before attending any design class she made her first dress 30 years ago from a sheet. "I was inspired by a dress I saw in a store window on middle neck boulevard in Great Neck, Long Island. Knowing there was a sewing machine at my mothers apartment, I just went straight to the closet grabbed a sheet and cut and sew'd a white tennis dress, with out a pattern.
Several years later Madsen started her fashion career in the garment industry in NYC in a buying office, then wholesale and retail. She later became a stylist and wardrobe costumer for print, film and theater. But it wasn't until Madsen moved to Santa Monica after her mother passed away, at 36, that she would become a fashion designer. She has been designing one of a kind fashions for 12 years in Santa Monica.
