Celebrated Italian design house Missoni opened the six-day-long Japanese bi-annual fashion extravaganza Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo with two of its exemplary catwalk collections.

Playing the guest star at the opening ceremony of the event, the Milan-based family-owned business featured its latest women’s Spring/Summer 2014 designs, which were first showcased in Milan Fashion Week’s September, 2013 schedule, and men’s S/S-14 collection, which was originally unveiled during the label’s menswear shows in June, this year.

Japanese talent Yasutoshi Ezumi presented a fresh range replete with asymmetrical hemlines, contrasting panels and draped knits on the same day of the soiree. Based on the classic tones of black and white, decorated with Mondrian-style geometric patterns in shades of blue, green and yellow, the collection featured shift dresses, pencil skirts, trenchcoats, wide-legged ankle pants and menswear-inspired shirts.

Tamae Hirokawa, the designer behind the clothing label Somarta, harked back to the traditional Japanese tea ceremonies and kimonos for his latest fashion presentation at the event. Infusing elements of contemporary Japan, the natural silk look alike high-tech Japanese triacetate fabric made line included wrap dresses, layered skirts and kimono-sleeve tops tied with obi belts in rich green, midnight blue, pastel aqua and dusty pinkish hues.

Scheduled to run till October 19, 2013, the fashion-packed soiree is set to feature a string of style-studded shows by as many as 32 leading local and international brands, such as Facetasm, Johan Ku, Matohu, Ne-Net and Motonari Ono, in its week-long schedule.
